Jayhawks Round Out The Final Four

Kansas was the beneficiary of North Carolina losing their star point guard, but give them credit, they took advantage.

The Jayhawks buckled down and played some second half defense, limiting Carolina to just 20 second half points.  I was under the impression that only Big Ten teams could be limited to 20 in a half, but apparently it can happen to the up-tempo ACC too.  Weird.

Give Bill Self a lot of credit too — switching to a triangle and two defense was an outstanding choice.  The Tar Heels were unable to hit from the outside and he took advantage by taking away anything in the paint.  It would have been interesting to see how this game played out if Carolina had their real point guard.

Random Commentary: Going into the tournament, I claimed there were about 7 teams that could win the national championship.  I still believe that.  Nobody outside of the top 2 seeds had a shot to win the tournament this year.  The teams I considered elite and had a chance to win it all in the 2011-12 season were: Kentucky, Syracuse, North Carolina, Michigan State, Ohio State, Kansas and Duke.  That’s right, Mizzou wasn’t on that list either.  Obviously Louisville is still alive, but Kentucky is going to easily stomp them and we’ll be left with a match up of big boys in the finals.  The way all the teams are playing now, I would love to see a Kentucky vs Ohio State finals as those have been the best two teams (as a whole) in the tournament this year.

Also, it looks like my “Head” bracket beat out my “Heart” bracket — Once again proving that you should always make picks with your head over your heart.

If you still have a chance to win, best of luck to you!  And I hope you have Kentucky winning it all…because that would make you the favorite.
